The Renegade Evo GTX Mid is the newer take on Lowa's best-known leather mid. Amazon lists a leather upper, a fabric lining, a rubber sole, a mid-top cut and a waterproof rating, with Gore-Tex in the name and an item weight of 1.18 kg. It sits in our waterproof men's boot guide and our Lowa range guide, and it is aimed at walkers who like the Renegade idea but want the current version with a fabric lining.

In its favour
- Leather upper with Gore-Tex in the model name, a proven combination for wet UK conditions.
- A fabric lining is listed, which tends to dry faster than leather after a soaking day.
- The listing gives a weight of 1.18 kg, which is moderate for a leather mid boot if that is per pair.
Good to know
- The listing does not say whether the weight is per boot or per pair, so check before comparing.
- No outsole compound or B rating is stated, so check Lowa's pages before rough winter use.
Our take
Spec points from the listing
The shaft is ankle height and the height map is mid top. The seasons field reads autumn. The insole material field says rubber, which is probably a data slip, and the outsole compound is not named.
Compared with the classic Renegade GTX Mid listing, which gives 1.65 kg and an unlined description, the Evo lists a lower 1.18 kg and a fabric lining. Neither listing says whether its figure is per boot or per pair, so treat the difference as a hint rather than a measurement.
Why the fabric lining matters
A fabric lining against the membrane tends to dry faster and feel cooler than a leather lining. For British walkers who wear the same boots from April to October, that can make the Evo more comfortable on warm days while still keeping water out on wet ones.
Care is the usual leather routine: clean off mud, dry slowly, and keep the leather supple with a membrane-friendly treatment.
Renegade Evo against the Renegade GTX Mid and Bhutan MFS
The original Lowa Renegade GTX Mid remains on sale and in our guides. Choose it if you already know and like its fit. Choose the Evo if you want the updated version and a stated fabric lining.
Meindl's Bhutan MFS GTX takes the opposite approach with a leather lining. It will feel warmer and more traditional, which suits winter walkers more than summer ones.
Who should look elsewhere
Walkers carrying heavy loads on rough ground may want the calf-height Lowa Tibet Evo GTX. Those after the lightest possible boot should look at the Lowa Zephyr GTX Mid TF or a fabric mid.
Anyone upgrading from an older Renegade should try the Evo on before assuming the same size will fit, since an updated model is not guaranteed to share every detail of the original.
Verdict
The Renegade Evo GTX Mid suits walkers who want the current Renegade with a fabric lining and Gore-Tex for year-round British walking. If you already love the classic fit, the Lowa Renegade GTX Mid is still a sound choice, and the Meindl Bhutan MFS GTX suits those who prefer a warm leather lining.
