Wide feet and Italian mountain shoes do not always get on. The Bushido III Wide GTX is La Sportiva's trail running shoe made in a wide version, with a waterproof rating and a mesh upper. It is not a walking shoe in the usual sense, but for walkers with broad feet who like to move quickly, it fills a gap that few waterproof trail shoes cover.

In its favour
- Wide is in the product name, a rare wide option for a waterproof trail shoe.
- The listing marks it as waterproof and slip resistant for trail use.
- A mesh upper is listed, lighter and quicker to dry than the leather shoes here.
Good to know
- It is built for trail running, with minimal cushioning listed, not for long walks.
- A mesh upper gives less protection on rock and scree than leather.
Our take
What the Amazon page states
Wide is part of the product name. Water resistance is listed as waterproof, slip resistance is named as a special feature, and trail is the recommended surface. The outer material is mesh, with the lining and sock listed as synthetic fabric.
Cushioning is given as minimal. The listed weight is 900 g, which is probably a pair figure since trail shoes are rarely that heavy per shoe.
Fit and feel for broad feet
A wide version keeps the same length as the standard shoe but gives more room across the forefoot. That matters more than people expect on a hill walk: feet swell over a long day, and a shoe that was fine at the start can pinch by the summit. Sizing up to gain width usually leaves the heel loose and the toes sliding on descents.
With minimal cushioning listed, the ride is firm and close to the ground. Expect good feedback on rock and less comfort on hard tracks.
Because the upper is mesh, it will dry far quicker than leather after a wet day, but it also scuffs more readily on sharp rock. A quick rinse and air drying after muddy outings will help the mesh and stitching last longer.
Other wide options in our guide
The La Sportiva Ultra Raptor II Leather Wide GTX is the walking-led alternative, with a leather upper and an Ortholite insole. The Hanwag Torsby Low SF Extra GTX has Wide in its model number and moderate PU foam cushioning, so it will feel softer on long walks. The Bushido is the lightest-feeling and most running-focused of the three.
Who it does not suit
Walkers who want cushioning for long road sections, or protection on sharp scree, will find the mesh upper and minimal cushioning limiting. It is a shoe for fast, light days rather than long rambles.
Verdict
Pick the Bushido III Wide GTX if you have broad feet, like a firm and responsive shoe and walk quickly on rocky paths. For more cushioning and a tougher upper, the Ultra Raptor II Leather Wide GTX or the Hanwag Torsby Low SF Extra GTX are the better wide-fit choices.
