The Camino Evo GTX is the boot in our resoleable guide that says so directly. Amazon's bullets call it durable and resolable, built with a traditional glued construction, and describe a nubuck leather upper, a Gore-Tex membrane and a last designed for medium-width feet. For walkers who want one pair of boots to last for years and be resoled when the tread wears down, it is the clearest choice.

Our take

What Lowa says about it

The bullets call it a classic for trekking tours and list activities from day hikes to long distance, mountain and multi-day hikes as well as pilgrimages. The heel spring, the rise of the heel above the toe, is given as 16.4 mm.

The membrane is described as waterproof, windproof and breathable. The shaft height reads calf high, and the item weight is listed at 1.8 kg, without saying whether that is per boot or per pair.

Why resolable matters

Boots with a resolable construction can have the sole replaced by a cobbler or the manufacturer when the tread wears. That can add years to a leather boot, especially one whose upper is still in good shape.

Nubuck leather needs regular care to keep it supple and water-repellent. Use a product suitable for nubuck and membrane boots, clean off mud after walks, and dry slowly away from heat.

Camino Evo against the Burma Pro and SL Active

Meindl's Burma Pro MFS GTX is a leather-lined Gore-Tex boot with a Vibram Multigriff sole. It is a strong all-rounder, but its listing does not mention resoling.

The Scarpa SL Active has a thick 2.7 mm leather upper and no membrane. It suits walkers who prefer a breathable boot. Neither listing confirms resoling, which is where the Camino Evo stands out.

Who should choose something else

People with wide feet should note the medium-width last and look at wide-fit models. Walkers who want a light boot for summer paths will find a calf-high leather trekker heavy.

Remember too that resoling is only worth it if the upper is cared for. Leather that has been left to dry out and crack cannot be rescued by a new sole, so the promise of a long life depends on regular cleaning and conditioning between walks.

Verdict

Choose the Camino Evo GTX if you want a nubuck Gore-Tex trekking boot that the listing states can be resoled. If you want a Vibram Multigriff sole, the Meindl Burma Pro MFS GTX is the alternative, and if you prefer a boot without a membrane, the Scarpa SL Active fits better.
